Meet Adam and the Rhodes Family
In 2007 Adam and his wife Heather relocated to Licking County from Boston with a 3-month old baby, new jobs, their first home and no family, friends, or connections. What they found was a warm and welcoming community, incredible schools, friendly faces, and a pace of life they had been looking for their whole lives. As their family grew and their circle of friends broadened they knew they had also found home.
As the years passed, Adam wanted to launch a project that would allow him to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning his own business. As a trained software developer he had worked on projects for Ford’s NASCAR Racing team and public safety software for police, fire, EMS and dispatchers. When he stopped and listened to his heart though, the brewery was born.
When it came time to name the brewery, Adam and his wife looked back on the experience they had gone through: coming to Ohio, establishing a life, and setting down roots. It was the same adventure the homesteaders had embarked on so many years ago. The link between that time in their lives and the brewery was established. As Homestead grew, it helped their family, business partners, and employees to dig even deeper roots into their community.
A brewery is an oddly communal business - while it’s manufacturing, it is also a gathering place for the community. They knew they were on the right path when they won the Outstanding American Manufacturer Small Business Award from the national SBA. It was an honor to be chosen - and even more of an honor to have a chance to stand on stage at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce - and tell a national audience about the incredible manufacturing resurgence going on in Licking County.
Although Adam wasn’t born here, he has built a life here. His wife’s work at Denison ties her to the community, and his business has created its own community. It was a desire to be of service to the people of Licking County that led him to decide to run for Licking County Commissioner.
It is Adam's hope that he can provide a new voice with fresh ideas and a unique perspective to the County Commissioners. He hopes to become a voice for all of the small businesses in the county that employ so many of us. He also treasures time with his family, and as more and more young families relocate into Licking County seeking that same quality of life that his family fell in love with - he hopes to be a voice for them. And as a young man with a long background in technology, he hopes to be a voice for new ideas and new technologies to help improve the lives of everyone in the county.
